LIBERAL EDUCATION IN AN EPOCH OF TRANSFORMATION

Modernity claimed that mankind commanded its own destiny and followed the thorny, but secure road to progress. Both beliefs lost its significance in an epoch that began around the 1970-s. We live in an epoch without a clear idea about the future of mankind and without grand scale aims. Current socio-cultural situation gives limited support to the idea of social value of both knowledge and professional skill. At the same time, it supports the idea of individual self-actualization and therefore it favors the liberal model of education.
