nubes oscuras (heavy clouds) cubrieron (brood.. over) la casa (… house), centellearon relámpagos (lightning flash..), comenzó un fuerte granizo (… strong hail start..) y luego (then) estalló el viento (… wind brake* out/ broke/ broken).

Era (it be*/ was, were/ been) de (of) tal fuerza (such a force) que (that) comenzó (begin*/ began/ begun) a (to) demoler (demolish) todos los (all the) edificios (building..) a su alrededor (around), a (to) convertir en astillas los barcos (smash the boats into pieces) en (at) el muelle local (… local marina).

Alicia estaba (be*) muy (very) asustada (scared), se subió (climb) a (onto) la cama (… bed) y se cubrió de cabeza con la manta (pull.. cover over her head).

De esa manera (that way) había sentado (she sit..) hasta que (until) sintió (she feel*/ felt/ felt) que (that) la casa se despegó (be* got off the ground/ was, were/ been) y estaba llevandose (carry) en una dirección desconocida (in an unknown direction).

admirando (admiring) el cielo azul sin nubes (… azure cloudless sky)
